Belly Basics: Isolations
In this beginner friendly class you will focus on posture, break down complex traditional movements, and develop isolations.
Isolations are the skill underneath all of the complex movements in belly dance. We build on these isolations to create sensual, evocative movements used in traditional belly dance. Skilled isolations enhance your strength and flexibility and allow you to see the beauty of your own unique body and way of moving, combining with music and rhythm to become your own unique expression. This class is based on those designed by belly dancer and exercise physiologist Kyro Zelke. The movements are specifically designed to strengthen your body, protect your joints, and keep you physically healthy for a long, injury free dance career. Our Isolations class is for beginning dancers, developing strength and flexibility, fixing weaknesses in basic skills, and gaining confidence and beauty.
Belly Basics: Combinations
In this beginner friendly class you will MOVE, repeating short routines that combine classic belly dance movements. Get your heart rate up and fly through an hour with us! This class is taught by the fabulous performer Saliyah and is the perfect complement to the isolations class.
Belly Basics: Floorwork
This class uses health and wellness concepts from a wide range of practices to challenge your strength and control. According to physical therapists, the ability to sit on a floor is one of the best indicators of your physical health. Natural aging, injuries, and a lifestyle that restricts your movement will take away this ability. In the floorwork classes we practice safely transitioning from standing to kneeling to other postures. When we find the range of movement we are comfortable in we add the elegance and joy of a dancer. Develop a style that is unique to your body while learning to locate, respect, and expand your own personal limits.
We dance in a number of different spaces. Unless otherwise noted the classes are in Rapid City.
